FROM THE EDITOR

Stacey Ward, English Newsletter Editor

If you're looking for some distraction/inspiration, this great
site I stumbled upon might be just the thing:
http://www.stumbleupon.com/

You download an extension for your browser (Firefox or Explorer
only) which creates a "stumble!" button on your browser window.
Click it during any dull moment and be whisked to a seemingly
random yet fantastic page you would never have known existed!
You create a personal profile of your interests, be they arts,
bizarre, computers, health, linux, movies or society (to name
but a few) so that you get taken to pages of particular
interest to you.

As a search engine marketer, I find the idea of the democracy
of "stumbling" versus the varying levels of technical
trickery and commercialisation presented to us on the results
pages of search engines especially interesting.. but I wonder
how long community projects like these can remain purely
democratic. Enjoy it while you can!

Some of members must be having a holiday now. However,
ending the rainy season, midsummer is near so it's time
for Beer!

The DEJ 2006 Beer Party will be held in a central of Tokyo
on the 25th August. We hope many members can join us and
it will be a great opportunity to meet old friends and make
new ones in a relaxed atmosphere. See Upcoming Events for
details.

I met Ko Iwata at the Meet the DEvas in 2002 and we started
up DEJ newsletter with Lenora. Ko worked hard as a
Japanese editor for 4 years and decided to take a little
break. We thank Ko for all her efforts towards the
newsletter publication. I hope she'll return after the
break and we can work together again.
Ko-san, see you at DEJ event sometime soon.

WEB CONTENT TEAM NEWS
Ladawan Lhuang-on, Web Content Coordinator
<web@digitalevejapan.org>

Despite the rising temperature, it is nice and quite
relaxing to see young people in "yukata" during summertime
here. The heat wave phenomenon is happening all around the
globe. With all the heat this summer, let痴 take it easy,
finding a calm place to sit down together with your friends,
reading some books, working on new applications, or browsing
through your favorite sites.

DEJ EVENT REVIEW

Mira Mehta

DigitalEve had a Photoshop work shop on 29th July from 6-9pm
in Omotesando. There were 6 students and our teacher Jennifer
Pack came all the way from Fussa-Yokota base to teach us.
The class started and, since I am a beginner, I was afraid
that I would not be able to keep up, but Jennifer patiently
answered everyone's questions.

She taught us how to make layers and make changes to our
photos as well as how to transform color photos to
black/white and then keep only (say a flower) in color.
There were Ohs and Ahs when we tried cloning. It was quite
an eye-opener to see the possibilities one can achieve with
Photoshop. We were given a CD each, with photos to work on
at home.

Jennifer said that the best way to learn Photoshop was to
play around with the tools and find out what all can be done.
On the whole it was a very interesting class and we asked if
we could have another one (part 2) to this class.

All in all, it was a very educational evening and we all
came away feeling happy to have taken a step forward.
Thank you Jennifer for all your help.
